R type ring joint gaskets are developed in octagonal or oval cross section and as pe4 the API 6A and ASME B16.20 standards to suit API 6B and ASME/ANSI B16.5 flanges. The octagonal ring fits latest flat bottom groove flange, while the oval ring fits the round and flat bottom ring groove flanges.
The pressure energized version of R Octagonal gasket is RX type RTJ gasket, that is developed as per API 6A and ASME B16.20 to suit API 6B and ASME/ANSI B16.5 flanges. This gasket fits the R type flat bottomed groove. As mentioned before, this gasket makes use of the internal system pressure to energise and also improves the seal as internal pressure increases. In some sizes of RX type RTJ gasket, there are a pressure relief hole that equalises pressure equalises on both sides of sealing faces.
BX type RTJ gaskets are developed as per API 6A and are ideal for use in high pressure API 6BX flanges. A metal to metal seal on assembly is formed by gasket and when internal pressure increases, the efficiency improves. The pressure relief hole on some BX sizes, equalize pressure across sealing faces.
